Lil Baby released from custody in Paris

Rapper Lil Baby, one of two people detained by French police in connection with a drug investigation, has been released, officials said.

He was ordered to pay a fine for drug use, the Paris prosecutor’s office told NBC News on Friday morning. The amount of the fine and the name of the second person detained were not disclosed.

Lil Baby, real name Dominique Armani Jones, was in Paris with NBA star James Harden for Fashion Week.

Harden, who had been seen with Jones around Paris over the past week, was not in custody.

An investigation has been opened by the city’s 8th arrondissement police station, the prosecutor’s office said.

Video recorded by a passerby and shared online appears to show Harden and at least one other black man surrounded by police and searched in their pockets.

“It’s okay,” Harden can be heard in the short clip telling someone off camera. “I do not understand.”

News of the arrest was first reported by French newspaper Le Parisien and confirmed by NBC News. The newspaper said Jones and Harden were among a group that were pulled over by police around 4:50 p.m. local time after three people got out of a car smelling marijuana.

Representatives for Jones and Harden did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
