Mexico to bottle and package Sputnik V vaccine

MEXICO – Mexico will begin bottling and packaging the Russian vaccine Sputnik V, Mexican Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard said on Wednesday during a visit to Russia.

Mexico has already received more than a million doses of Sputnik V in recent months. Ebrard says state-owned Birmex is working with the Russian Direct Investment Fund to prepare for bottling operations.

Mexico has already bottled the CanSino vaccine developed by China.

The national vaccine finishing is part of Mexico’s efforts to get more vaccines. In addition to Sputnik V and CanSino, Mexico uses the Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Sinovac vaccines.

The country has received 16.6 million doses and administered some 12 million vaccines, or about 9.4% of the population. Mexico has vaccinated many of its seniors and plans to start vaccinating people aged 50 to 59 in May.
