While two police officers were injured in the crash, the driver of the escaped car was captured and detained.
The incident took place around 11:00 p.m. in the central Çukurova district. Due to the curfew restriction enforced as part of the coronavirus measures, the police team, which applied to the intersection, wanted to stop the car with the plate 01 AFF 996, which they suspected.
The driver of the car, who did not obey the “stop” warning from the police, started to run. The police team, who followed the car, crashed into a tree on the sidewalk after the car got out of control on the way back from Turgut Özal Boulevard to Türkmenbaşı Boulevard. During the pursuit, when the other police team radioed the situation, medical and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene of the accident. Two police officers injured in the accident were taken to hospital by medical teams who came with notice. Police teams blocked off the area and caught the driver of the fleeing car at the intersection of Turgut Özal Boulevard and Kurttepe Street. The driver, who was arrested and whose name is not yet known, was taken to Yüzüncü Yıl police station.
Police have opened an investigation into the incident.
